About Albert Fatikhov
Albert Fatikhov is a competitive Nordic Walking athlete, World Championship medalist, and President of the Nordic Walking Association of North America.
His involvement in Nordic Walking combines two roles that are closely connected: competing at a high level and helping build the sport for the next generation of athletes.
International Competition
Albert has competed internationally in Nordic Walking and has earned medals at both World Championship and national-level competition.
At the 2024 Nordic Walking World Championship in Lahti, Finland, he won a Silver Medal as a member of the men’s 4 × 5 km relay team and a Bronze Medal in the individual 5 km event.
He is also a multiple medalist at the Latvian Championships.
These results form the competitive foundation behind his work in athlete development and sport leadership.
Continuing to Compete
Albert remains an active athlete.
In the United States, he competes in NWANA’s developing competitive system, including the 2026 NWANA Nordic Walking Series.
His participation across shorter and longer distances reflects a broader commitment to staying directly connected to competition while helping develop the sport administratively.
Albert currently leads the 2026 NWANA Open 1K, 3K, 5K, 10K, 15K, 20K Series standings.
Building Nordic Walking in North America
Albert serves as President of the Nordic Walking Association of North America (NWANA), a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on the development and governance of Nordic Walking across North America.
His work includes helping establish competitive standards, education pathways, judging development, community structures, sanctioned competition, athlete pathways, and stronger international relationships.
The objective is not simply to promote Nordic Walking as recreational exercise, but to help create a sustainable sport system in which athletes can learn, compete, improve, and progress.
A Competitor’s Perspective
Albert’s approach to leadership is shaped by direct experience as an athlete.
Competition provides a practical understanding of what athletes, coaches, judges, organizers, and sport organizations need in order to build credible events and meaningful competitive pathways.
That experience continues to influence NWANA’s development strategy as Nordic Walking grows across the United States and the wider North American region.
